What’s Your More in 24?
Being a type A personality and recovering perfectionist, I am always eager to start the New Year with what comes easily for me: a list of ambitious projects and BHAGs (big, hairy, audacious goals). Unfortunately, this list is also full of unrealistic expectations that can overwhelm, disappoint, and paralyze me. I want more for 2024, which requires me to do something different that does not come so easily: to rest, reflect and recover from the last year to inform the new one.
Do you want to feel more rushed and overwhelmed, powering through everything, or more calm and present, actively choosing with a full and open heart? The answer to this question is easy, but it takes more time and energy to make your best decisions to support it. This begs the question, What’s Your More in 2024?
One way to determine your More is identify ONE word that resonates with you to focus on this year. My team and I started this practice a few years ago and it helps us to stay on track when we name it and then support each other.
My More for 2024 is Wholehearted, which means to me, fully sincere, enthusiastic and energetic in all areas of my life. Choose ONE word (from the list or your own) that is meaningful and supportive of your More. Take your time with this and the right word will reveal itself when you pay attention to what excites and scares you at the same time.
Authentic | Joyful | Loyal |
Healthy | Dedicated | Innovative |
Content | Generous | Fulfilled |
Patient | Creative | Adventurous |
Committed | Aware | Forgiving |
Loving | Brave | Fun |
Focused | Clear | Trusting |
Responsible | Calm | Open |
Energized | Intentional | Inspired |
Positive | Responsible | Confident |
Trusting | Grateful | Flexible |
Engaged | Wholehearted | Deliberate |
After you choose your word, practice Self-Leadership and determine the decisions you need to make to support it. For me to be Wholehearted, I know I have to prioritize my recovery practices to slow down, engage, and recharge myself.
Because what you focus on expands, one meaningful word can influence every area of your life.
What’s your More in 24?
I look forward to hearing you!
HI Diane!
Before I read this, I had decided that my word would be discipline for 2024. However, as I talked about my word I didn’t feel empowered or excited, rather I felt anxious and worried that I wouldn’t be able to commit. After reading your blog and looking at the list, I have decided that Intentional is a better word. I feel empowered by this word because it says to me that I am choosing vs. feeling like if I don’t succeed I have failed. To do this I will prioritize recovery my recovery practices as well. Thanks for this list- HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Great insight Astra! You make such a good point that we need to feel empowered and excited vs anxious and worried about what we want to focus on. Choosing is the power of Self-Leadership. Thank you for sharing,
Diane
Love this, Diane! As a former nurse educator, I always made my students decide on ONE word! Now, as a hospice nurse, INTENTIONAL pops out to me. Life is precious. Whether God grants us few days or long days, we only know that we have the day we are in to live life to the fullest. Blessings to you, Diane!!
Hi Carol,
Yes, I so agree with you that life is precious and our Intention has to be the foundation of everything we do to embrace that. Thank you for what you do every day and blessings to you as well, Carol!
